The male adders are preparing to moult, note the bluing in the eye, this precedes courtship. Most of the year Adders are rarely seen being highly alert and avoiding people. When moulting they can be less alert than usual making them easier to photograph but can also lead to conflict with walkers and dogs. Fulmurs are very busy with courtship along the cliffs.
